Works consist of reclaiming areas from the sea and from land with an approximate quantity of 1,185,000 m³ of general fill material and 515,000 m³ of structural fill material, dredging soft and hard seabed materials and installing a vertical drain to accelerate the settlement process of the soft soil under the seabed. To retain all reclamations works, sheet piles were used on the north side. On the east bund, slope and scour protection was installed comprising accropodes, 9 m³ each, and 2 to 4 tons of rocks constituting the boundary with the Beirut River. Works included constructing a 500 m x 34 m new quay composed from a deck structure (26,000 m³ concrete) on 574 steel piles (1.3 m diameter, 30-70 m deep), and executing surface works of the container terminal, such as infrastructure works and utilities (drainage, sewage, potable water, fire-fighting, electrical works) as well as concrete base slab (62,300 m³) and concrete pavers for 178,000 m².
